Despite calls of cheating and favoritism from its critics, the 3DMark PC benchmarking program remains the most well known and most referred to way to see if the latest hardware is really up to snuff, not to mention the fact that their demo movie is always one of the most beautiful looking things to run on a PC. Very soon, the next version of the program, 3DMark05, will be released and HomeLAN got a chance to chat briefly with Futuremark's Customer & Media Relations Specialist Nicklas Renqvist to find out more about it.
HomeLAN - What were the main goals for the development team when they started work on 3DMark05?
Nicklas Renqvist - As usual, the main goals for every new 3DMark version are to produce something visually stunning, raise the bar in real-time 3D and of course to make a benchmark which is reliable and useful for a wide group of users.
HomeLAN - What are some of the major new tests people can run with the program?
Nicklas Renqvist - We have 3 all new game tests, 2 all new CPU tests, a plethora of feature tests and a new test suite called “Batch Size Tests”. In addition to that we have improved the image quality tools found in 3DMark03, and added a Graph Tool for very in-depth testing.
HomeLAN - How hard was it to create the demo movie that is the heart of 3DMark05?
Nicklas Renqvist - Well the demo is more or less an extended version of the benchmark game test scenes. Whenever we design and plan the next 3DMark and in particular the game tests, the demo is actually from where we start. We then cut some of the beginning, and some from the end, and that becomes a game test. The game test part is of course tuned along with the demo part so that it not only looks great, but also benchmarks correctly and accurately.
HomeLAN - There have been a lot of criticism lately surrounding the use of 3DMark05 and other benchmarking software as a definitive way to show PC graphics performance. What is Futuremark's response to this?
Nicklas Renqvist - 3DMark05 and 3DMark03 both are actually very accurate benchmarks when used for which they are made for. When we released 3DMark03 very few games had used shaders to same extent as 3DMark03 did. Also, the amount of polygons on screen and the shadow technique made 3DMark03 very heavy on the system. Now when games are being released using more and more shaders, more dynamic shadows etc. it should be clear that what 3DMark03 predicted and showed (and still does) was very close to what we see in games now. 3DMark05 will work the same way. People won’t see 100fps in 3DMark05 on current hardware, but everyone should keep in mind that what we are doing in 3DMark05 is something no game has yet done.
HomeLAN - Will this be the last 3DMark version we will see before Longhorn/DirectX10 is released or are there plans for a major revision?
Nicklas Renqvist - We haven’t decided when the next 3DMark after 3DMark05 will be released, or what kind of a benchmark it will be. We will of course monitor the situation to see if there’s a need for an update or a totally new version at some point.
HomeLAN - Finally is there anything else you wish to say about 3DMark05?
Nicklas Renqvist - One thing that many users will notice is that we have really put a lot of effort on the Pro version. The Pro version of 3DMark05 has it all, except some features which are only available in the Business version. All options, settings, tools, tests, graphs, Pro Online ResultBrowser and much more is only available in the Pro version. 3DMark05 Pro really is what we designed 3DMark05 to be. We were able to keep the Pro version price in the bare minimum and hope that it enables all of our users to ‘go Pro’.

xxxxxx Это не из-за шейдеров, дарагой мой, а из-за того о чём я писал в постах на 10-ой странице, я вот лично удивляюсь как это ещё 9200SE от Saphire не уделала по этому тесту 6800Ultra от LeadTeack

Так не делается. Просто так они не могут нечестно начислять попугаев больше АТИ. А то запозорят их... Надо же как-то обосновать это... Вот поэтому и используется много шейдеров. А там серия GfFX проигрывает. вот и всё..

А серия Титан? а сери RivaTNT? Хорошо, я наивный - но кто тогда эти сотни тысяч, которые как обезьяны скачут от того что их АТИ на пару сотен попок набрали больше??? Цитирую "..тысячи ублюдков.." и не более

slam1 ^))) да в принципе я жду этот 3дмарк2005 чтобы заценить графику... а не чтобы резалт узнать. главное чтобы игры не начали такие делать, где 9800ПРО в два раза уделает 5900Ультра.

я просто поражаюсь вашему оптимизму по поводу даты релиза счетчик остановится а качать нечего по причинам бла-бла-бла дата перенесена буду очень рад если ошибаюсь
